| | | | | | From Srila Prabhupada: You cannot execute any severe type of religious principles. Simply take to this chanting of Hare Krsna mantra. Param vijayate sri-krsna-sankirtanam. You'll come out triumphant. But actually, on principle, dharma means gradually, step forward for liberation. Dharmasya hy apavargyasya na arthaya. We should not execute dharma for some material gain, arthaya. Just like people are very busy to give in charity, because he'll get some exalted post. Yajna dana tapa kriya. These are karma-kandiyas, yajna, performing sacrifices, giving in charity, dana, tapa, austerity. Just like Hiranyakasipu underwent severe austerities, Ravana underwent severe austerity. What for? For material gain. That's all. So actually dharma does not mean that. Dharma means to come to the point to the Supreme Personality of Godhead. -- "Everyone Can Serve Krsna," Srimad Bhagavatam 1.2.9, October 20th, 1972, Vrindavana Read and hear the entire lecture |
| | | | | Glories of Srila Prabhupada by Bhakti Charu Swami Who is Bhakti Charu Swami? Read his biography Ramayana means the glorious activities of Lord Ramacandra. But to understand the glories of the Sri Ramachandra, we have to understand the glory of Srila Prabhupada. Rather to understand the -The more we recognize and appreciate the glory of Srila Prabhupada the more we will be able to appreciate of the activities of Supreme Personality of Godhead, because Srila Prabhupada came to give the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The mercy of the Lord flows through Srila Prabhupada, the most bona fide representative of the Lord. Instead of speaking of Grantha Bhagavad to the person Bhagavat. Instead of Bhagavatam the scripture, we are going to speak on the Bhagavatam, the personality, Srila Prabhupada. To recognize Srila Prabhupada properly we have to recognize ISKCON. Because ISKCON is the manifestation of Srila Prabhupada in his absence. We have to recognize the importance of ISKCON because ISKCON is the manifestation of Srila Prabhupada in his absence. Srila Prabhupada is the founder Acarya of ISKCON and to understand this is not difficult. Srila Prabhupada founded, he created ISKCON. He is the one who made ISKCON. But what about the other half, the Acarya aspect? Prabhupada is not only the founder, he is the Acarya of ISKCON. What is the meaning of Acarya? Acarya means the spiritual master. So Prabhupada is not only the founder of ISKCON, but Prabhupada is also the spiritual master of everyone in ISKCON. Srila Prabhupada is not just the spiritual master of his disciples, Srila Prabhupada is the spiritual master of all the devotees of ISKCON for all time. As long as ISKCON will be there Srila Prabhupada will remain the Acarya of ISKCON. Does that mean there shouldn't be any other gurus? No, there will be gurus but those gurus will be subservient to Srila Prabhupada. Srila Prabhupada is the principle Acarya and all the gurus are subordinate. That is the difference between ISKCON and any other institution. Read the rest of the lecture |
Having a Problem? By Bhurijana dasa Hare Krsna. If you're having a problem, even if it's a big one, you're not alone. Dhruva Maharaja, the great devotee mentioned in Bhagavatam Canto Four, is also within the group of "problem-havers". When Dhruva left home (Bhag. 4.8.24), Srila Prabhupada in his purport spoke of a common solution to all problems. We all may not immediately be able to fully follow Prabhupada's instructions, even if due to important spiritual responsibilities, but let us deeply cherish his wise advice as ideal. "Both the mother and the son were lamenting Dhruva Maharaja's having been insulted by his stepmother and his father's not having taken any step on this issue. But mere lamentation is useless-one should find out the means to mitigate one's lamentation. Thus both mother and son decided to take shelter of the lotus feet of the Lord because that is the only solution to all material problems. It is indicated in this connection that Dhruva Maharaja left his father's capital city to go to a secluded place to search out the Supreme Personality of Godhead. It is the instruction of Prahlada Maharaja also that if one is seeking peace of mind he should free himself from all contamination of family life and take shelter of the Supreme Godhead by going to the forest. To the Gaudiya Vaisnava this forest is the forest of Vrnda, or Vrndavana. If one takes shelter of Vrndavana under Vrndavanesvari, Srimati Radharani, certainly all the problems of his life are solved very easily." |

Buttermilk Soda Bread 2 cups unbleached white flour 2 cups whole wheat flour ½ teaspoon cream of tartar 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda 1 teaspoon sea salt 2 cups buttermilk sea salt flakes
Preheat the oven to 425° F. Lightly flour a baking tray. Sift the flours, cream of tartar, bicarbonate of soda and sea salt into a large bowl. Make a well in the centre of the mixture. Pour in almost all the buttermilk, then stir with a wooden spoon until thoroughly combined. Feel the dough. It should be slightly sticky. If too dry, add the remaining buttermilk. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured work surface. Gently knead the dough for 1 minute (do not over knead). Shape the dough into a round and place on the prepared baking tray. Cut a 1.5cm (½-inch) deep cross into the dough and sprinkle with the sea salt flakes. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until golden and cooked through (test with a wooden skewer - if it comes out clean, it's done). Remove from the oven and transfer to a wire rack. Allow to cool then cover with a dampened towel until required. To serve: break off chunks or cut into slices. You can add dried fruits and/or nuts to this recipe. | Contact Information | Main Temple phone: 214-827-6330, Congregation Services: 214-827-6330 x 216 Email for general questions and information To schedule a tour, home or school program: Nityananda Chandra 214-669-3369, or email him To place an item in next week's bulletin, please send it by Monday each week |
Appreciating Kalachandji's Community Taken from a paper written by TCU student Phoebe Agundis for her "Understanding Wolrld Views" class after visiting the temple during the Sunday Feast: "I have heard people in the Christian world say we accept everyone, God loves everyone no matter what color. Although they say that so often, I have never witnessed it to the extent I had seen at the Hare Krishna Temple. The temple is truly a worship site of many faces. So many different types of people were there and no one seemed to mind that anyone was different." |
