| | | | | | From Srila Prabhupada: So it is the government's duty to see that people are very nicely ruled so that they become all pious. That is the duty of the government..Because if the king, monarch, is properly instructed, and if he orders that "My subject, my citizens, should follow this order," then it will be automatically followed out. By king's order...So in the Kali-yuga, this age, there is no such king. There is no such government. Therefore people are becoming polluted. It is the duty of the guru, the duty of the parents, duty of the government to train people in such a way that they may become pious, sinless. But they do not believe, even in the next life, that "If we act impiously, then we have to suffer next life." They avoid to believe that there is next life. But there is next life. In the morning we were talking about this. How you can say there is no next life? The child has got next life: a boy. The boy has got next life: a young man. And the young man has next life, to become old man. Similarly, the old man has got next life. It is very common logic. And it is spoken by Krsna, the supreme authority. Even if you do not understand, your dull brain, but we have to accept the words of Krsna. That is the critical point. If we take Krsna's instruction, everything will be solved. There will be no problem. -- "Barking Like a Dog," Srimad Bhagavatam 6.1.19, May 19, 1976, Honolulu Read and hear the entire lecture |

Making an auspicious start to the New Year, Giriraj Swami spoke from Srimad-Bhagavatam 6.2.33 about the life of Ajamila. "I recently heard a lecture Srila Prabhupada gave in London in which he talks about parrot-like chanting. He said that we should chant with enthusiasm - with love, with priti - not just parrot-like. He gave the example that a parrot may learn to chant, 'Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna,' but that if a cat comes and catches its neck, the parrot will cry, 'Kaw, kaw, kaw!' No more Krishna. Srila Prabhupada said that if we just chant externally, artificially, and our minds and hearts are somewhere else, then at the time of death there will be no 'Hare Krishna' - just 'kaw, kaw.' So we have to practice and come to truly chant with enthusiasm, affection, and feeling. Then we will be able to actually chant and remember Krishna at the time of death. Otherwise, it is not so easy." |
