From Srila Prabhupada:

Now, Lord Sri Krsna is describing how He incarnates Himself for the benefit of conditioned souls in the material world. The Supreme Personality of Godhead, He descends. The Sanskrit word is avatara. Avatara. Avatara, avatara. Avatara means who comes from higher plane down to this material world. He's called avatara. So sometimes Lord Sri Krsna comes Himself and sometimes He sends His representative also, for deliverance of the conditioned souls.  Now the principal religions of the world -- Hindu religion, Muslim religion, Christian religion, and Buddha religion -- most of them believes some supreme authority or personality coming down from the kingdom of God. Just like in your Christian religion Lord Jesus Christ, he claimed to be the son of God and coming from the kingdom of God to reclaim you. So this claim of Lord Jesus Christ, we admit. We, the followers of Bhagavad-gita, we admit this claim. So there is no difference of opinion between the followers of Hindu religion and Christian religion. In details there may be, according to country, climate and people, in details there may be difference, but that does not make any material difference. -- "Why the Lord and His Representative Descend," Bhagavad Gita 4.6-8, July 20, 1966, New York

Gunagrahi das Goswami - Please Engage Me in Your Service

Recently, before begining my japa, I was contemplating Srila Prabhupada's definition of the meaning of the maha mantra, which is: "Oh Lord, Oh energy of the Lord, please engage me in Your service".

I began asking myself, "Krsna is already engaging me in His service, so what is the need to continue petitioning Him? It seems redundant". But then I thought, "Yes, you are already engaging in His service, but why don't you try expanding on what that implies and see if you can take the meaning to a deeper and more relevant level?"

That sounded like a good idea, so here is what I came up with:

Oh my Lord, Oh energy of the Lord, please help me to constantly engage in
Your service.
Please continue to engage me in Your service in spite of my many faults.
Please one day engage me in Your spontaneous service.
Please help me to engage in Your unmotivated service without my asking You for something in return.
Please help me become free from nonsense thoughts while engaging in Your
service and draw my mind to You.
Please help me serve the devotees who are serving the devotees who are
engaged in Your service.
Please help me increase the effectiveness of my service.
Please help me to engage in service according to Your desires, not mine.
Please help me to please You with my service

Mayapuris Radhastami Performance on DVD

The Radhastami performance with the Mayapuris is available as a DVD from Rupa Madhurya's website.  You can purchase it by going here.

The Mayapuris performed at the Dallas temple for Radhastami.  This bhajan, dance, and narration tells a story of Lord Shiva and his desire to worship Lord Krishna.  I won't spoil the story by putting a summary here.  This performance is absolutely incredible.

Gingerbread - A Christmas Favorite!!!
6 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 tablespoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup shortening, melted and cooled slightly
1 cup molasses
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup water
1-1/2 tsp egg replacer
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Sift together the flour, baking powder, egg replacer, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and cinnamon; set aside.
In a medium bowl, mix together the shortening, molasses, brown sugar, water, and vanilla until smooth. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients, until they are completely absorbed. Divide dough into 3 pieces, pat down to 1 1/2 inch thickness, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 3 hours.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters. Place cookies 1 inch apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven. When the cookies are done, they will look dry, but still be soft to the touch. Remove from the baking sheet to cool on wire racks. When cool, the cookies can be frosted with the icing of your choice.
