From Srila Prabhupada:

So from the Vedas you can get all kinds of knowledge, both material and spiritual. Therefore it is called Veda, knowledge. So in that tree of knowledge the ripened fruit is Srimad-Bhagavatam. Srimad-Bhagavatam is written by Vyasadeva after writing four Vedas and the eighteen Puranas, the 108 Upanisads, then Vedanta-sutra, and Mahabharata, in which Bhagavad-gita is set up. So after compiling all these Vedic literatures Vyasadeva was not satisfied. Then his spiritual master advised him to describe the activities of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. That is Srimad-Bhagavatam. Bhagavat. Bhagavan. The word Bhagavat and... Bhagavata is also in relationship with Bhagavat or Bhagavan. So every sloka of Srimad-Bhagavatam is full of spiritual information. If we take advantage of this great Vedic literature, then we become fully aware of Bhagavan and the devotees of Bhagavan. Therefore it is named Bhagavatam. But this Bhagavatam has to be studied from the very beginning and take the lessons from live bhagavata. There are two kinds of Bhagavatam -- one, this grantha bhagavatam, and the other is a person bhagavatam. Caitanya Mahaprabhu advised that if you want to understand Bhagavatam, then you must approach a person whose life is Bhagavatam. He said, bhagavata para-giya bhagavata sthane, that "If we learn, listen, Srimad-Bhagavatam from the person bhagavatam, then it is very easy to understand the spiritual knowledge given in the Srimad-Bhagavatam." -- Srimad-Bhagavatam 5.5.1, Delhi, November 28, 1975

GunagrahiN Goswami

His Holiness Gunagrahi das Goswami joined ISKCON in Buffalo, NY, in November of 1969 and was initiated by His Divine Grace Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in 1971.

He accepted the order of Sannyas in 1983. In 1997, he accepted leadership responsibilities in Argentina and Uruguay, and presently oversees those countries as Zonal Secretary.

He travels widely in North and South America to counsel, teach, and present Krishna Consciousness. He is based at the ISKCON temple in Buenos Aires.

The following is from his blog.

FORGIVING IS A GREAT VIRTUE

Here is a very useful quote for all of us.

SB 11.23.5

TRANSLATION
Once a certain sannyasi was insulted in many ways by impious men. However, with determination he remembered that he was suffering the fruit of his own previous karma. I will narrate to you his story and that which he spoke.

PURPORT
Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura comments as follows. "Often those who give up the materialistic path and devote themselves to renunciation are attacked by impious persons. This analysis, however, is superficial, since the punishment is actually the cumulative result of one's past karma. Some renunciants show lack of tolerance when presented with the remnants of their previous sins and thus are forced to enter again onto the path of impious life. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu therefore instructs that one should become as tolerant as a tree. If a neophyte on the path of devotional service to the Lord's pure devotees is attacked by envious persons, he must accept it as a consequence of his previous fruitive activities. One should be intelligent and avoid future unhappiness by rejecting the ethic of an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. If one refuses to enter into enmity with envious men, they will automatically leave him alone."

From this quote we can understand that if we become angry upon being insulted, we should know that our anger should be directed at the actual cause of the problem, and that cause is not the person who offended us. Nor is it Krsna, for that matter, who is sanctioning and enabling that person's actions. Rather, the cause is none other than our very selves. It is certainly not easy to see things in that way, especially when we are feeling the pain of another's words or actions and when we have been steeped in illusory thought patterns for a very long time. Thus, it takes training and purification to develop the proper vision, and we have, therefore, been given guru, sadhu, and sastra to saturate our conditioned consciousness with the truth.

But, if we can come to the point of allowing ourselves to see that we are in fact to blame for our miseries, is there value in being angry with ourselves? And should we spend our time lamenting and thinking of ourselves in a negative way? Prabhupada does tell us it is indeed proper to feel shame for our past transgressions, but only up to a practical point. We should mainly focus on forgiving ourselves, just as we know how important it is to forgive others. We can then put aside our pain and self anger and have the strength go forward in our service with a posititve attitude and unburdened heart.

Our false egos struggle against our putting all of the above into action, but there is no limit to the amount we can benefit by doing so. Forgiving is a great virtue that no true devotee can live without.

GKDB

One day he picked up an unripe eggplant from the market and sat down at the base of a jhao tree at Baganbari. He cut the eggplant into pieces and dipped them into Ganges water and put a tulasi leaf on them. He offered them to his ishadevata [personal deity] and sang a song of offering: Bhaja Patita Uddharana, Sri Gaura Hari-"O Lord Caitanya, please accept the worship of this fallen soul." He then said to his Deity, "I don't know the right method of cooking this, but please eat a little of this food."
As soon as he said this, his voice became choked, and his body turned bright red and began to swell, while tears flowed from his eyes in streams, soaking his face and chest. Seeing these signs of love, Lalita-didi [a close friend] was amazed. When the transcendental emotions subsided nearly an hour later, he again sang a song. Putting his deity to sleep, he ate the unripe eggplant. His face showed expressions of great pleasure and happiness, more intense than one would make if tasting pancamrita [a sweet drink, considered a delicacy]."
