From Srila Prabhupada:   Maya is there. Therefore Krsna says, "The maya is very strong." But if you capture Krsna very, more strongly, then maya cannot do anything. If something is opposing your chanting, then you'll have to chant more loudly: Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. So you defeat maya. The medicine is the same. At least, I do so. When I am in some danger, I chant Hare Krsna loudly. Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare/ (laughter) Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. That's all. Bhaktivinoda Thakura... There is song: jay sakal bipod bhaktivinod bole jakhon o-nam gai. He says, "As soon as I chant this Hare Krsna, I become immediately free from all dangers." -- "Let Us Die Like Brahmanas -- Not Cats and Dogs," 9/8/69, Hamburg, Bhagavad-gita 7.14

HH Prahladananda Swami on the Process of Initiation

So here it says 'initiation process', so we should understand [that] initiation, simply sitting at the fire sacrifice and receiving the beads is not the entire initiation process. It is part of the process of initiation.  But initiation according to Srila Jiva Goswami is the transference of transcendental knowledge.  That is, if someone has transcendental knowledge and if someone wants to receive the transcendental knowledge, there is a process by which the person who wants to give the transcendental knowledge can deliver it to the person who wants to receive it and part of that process is sitting at a fire sacrifice and receiving a name and beads, etc. But it is not the entire process. If it were so easy we would all be Vaikuntha right now, of course we are in Vaikuntha in one sense, but in another sense we,.. our consciousness may not be fully in Vaikuntha as [of] yet.

Therefore there is process.  Sometimes the devotee say, "At the time of the initiation the Spiritual Master takes all your Karma,"  Has anyone here ever heard that before?  So does anyone here notice that they have a little bit of karma left?  Does that mean that at the time of initiation the spiritual master took all the karma and then gave it back?  No, karma is taken by the Process of Initiation.  And when one fully accepts the process then fully becomes free from his karma.  And as much as we accept the process then to that extent we become free from karma.  That process of the deliverance of transcendental knowledge is the process that frees us from the karma, not the fire sacrifice.  Although the fire sacrifice is supposed to develop the mood of receptivity for the transcendental knowledge, it itself it is not sufficient for liberation.  Or even to receive the transcendental knowledge, it is simply part of the process.- from the lecture - Srimad Bhagavatam 4.31.10 Process of Initiation - partial transcription 2008-12-25 Christmas, Los Angeles

1969 Vyasa Puja Offering to Srila Prabhupada

You came with Krishna Chaitanya in your heart and asked us humbly to come home. I in my fog stumbled into a circle of chanters of your merciful song and my heart began to melt. Oh! Prabhupad, Oh! deliverer of all wretched creatures such as I, how can I understand your love-I accept so little but you want to give so much. Oh! Krishna! Oh! Rama! Oh Chaitanya, Oh Nityananda! I beg you for the strength to repay your gift.

Tamal Krishna Goswami - Sri Sri Radha-Damodara in Texas

In his will Tamal Krishna Goswami bequeathed Sri Sri Radha-Damodara to the lifetime service of Vishnu-priya devi dasi, a disciple originally from Fiji.  She and her husband Sankarasana Dasa now care for the Their Lordships at the ISKCON center in Austin, Texas, where Sri Sri Radha-Damodara are the presiding Deities.

Sankarsana recalled, "I still remember when Goswami Maharaja first brought Sri Sri Radha-Damodara to Texas.  He personally bathed and dressed Their Lordships every morning in the Dallas pujari room.  In fact, there is a wonderful photograph of Goswami Maharaja looking through Their jewelry as he meticulously engages himself in dressing Them.  He also named his tape ministry, the Radha-Damodara Tape Ministry, after Them.  I fondly remember the time when Goswami Maharaja, Visnu-priya, and I observed mangala-arati with Sri Sri Radha-Damodara in Goswami's study in Dallas.--

Appreciating Kalachandji's Community
A recent letter  received from Bryan McDonald, brother of Shivananda Prabhu who recently passed away:  "I had planned on coming to temple today but we had a family thing with the father a few hours away. I have been reading though and I finished a few of the small books but i am really liking the "Journey of Self Discovery" it is so much like the Science of Self Realization."

8 medium potatoes, peeled and sliced into 0.5 cm (1/4-inch) disks water
1 tablespoon (20 ml) olive oil
3/4 teaspoon (3 ml) yellow asafoetida powder
1/2 teaspoon (2 ml) ground dried rosemary
1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) freshly ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon ( 2 ml) turmeric
3 cups (750 ml) sour cream
1 tablespoon (20 ml) melted butter
2 teaspoons (10 ml) salt
1/2 cup (125 ml) water
1 teaspoon (5 ml) sweet paprika
2 tablespoons (40 ml) chopped fresh parsley
